The Brooklyn community wasn’t a borough in New York City to the citizens of Charlotte. It was predominantly black & included thriving African-American businesses, churches & schools. It was razed in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s for newer buildings. In fact, almost 1500 buildings were torn down in this Second Ward area of Charlotte. Christopher Lawing of the Charlotte Signs Project & Jesse Brown’s knows some of the remaining buildings & shares with the Outdoor Guys.
