Disaster Hits the mountains with Adam Suggs

Segment 2, October 5th, 2024

The devastation of Helene has been documented over the past week.  The after affects continue along with the good news of communities coming together to help.

Adam Suggs has joined us on the program to talk about mountain adventures, back to school and back to college moments. But in the past week he was in Boone, NC, as the rain begins to fall.  We’ll find out about his journey from the start of school to being sent home and what he thinks the future will bring.
Show Notes:

  • Thoughts that went through his mind during the storm
  • Eyewitness from campus to beyond & the things seen
  • School at Appalachian State University is out until October 15th, 2024, however many facilities are open to serve the community
  • WASU, the App. State Radio station has been serving information to those in the area.
  • Red Cross Club at ASU is a part of the solution @RedCross_AppState on Instagram or call 980-256-0950 for more information

Things You’ll Learn by Listening:

Our thoughts are all on all the communities affected by Helene.  The ones “on the hills & in the hollers” that were swept away & those left without power, roads, & homes. The question of “who is my neighbor?” is being answered with the resilience of community support throughout.

Fly Fishing Guiding, Instruction, & Outfitting trips in western North Carolina is a large part of Jesse Brown’s business.  Teaching people to fly fish the beautiful waters in this part of the world is special to us. In order to support our local guides & relief efforts in these hardest hit places, we plan on donating 5% of the Fly Fishing Trips Purchased Now through the rest of the 2024 year to Mountain True

This will enable us to continue planning for fly fishing in the future while helping with the impacted areas & people now.
