Crowders Mountain State Park with Superintendent Glen George

Superintendent Glen George & his team oversee the property of Crowders Mountain State Park.  He’s been the leader since 2017 after serving at other parks in the NC State Park system including Chimney Rock State Park that was damaged by the storm, Helene.  George recently spoke to host of the Carolina Outdoors, Bill Bartee, about the responsibilities & challenges at Crowders Mountain State Park.

  • George shared his staff with other areas in western NC during the Helene recovery.
  • Damage from the storm will last years at Crowders due to Helene.  Multiple fallen trees and limbs were lost
  • Crowders is a hiking destination with 22 miles of trails & close to Mecklenburg, York, Cherokee counties, & more.
  • The Park has two peaks: Crowders and Pinnacle  These give great views of the area surrounding Crowders.
  • The Ridgeline Trail ties two parks in two states together with a federal military park (Crowders (NC), Kings Mountain (SC), & Kings Mountain National Military Park.
  • Crowders is only closed one day: Christmas Day

Things You’ll Learn by Listening:

Crowders is a mecca for climbers in the area.  Climbers are required to register so that park management knows who is there for safety & security.
