Jefferson, North Carolina is a charming town located in Ashe County, nestled in the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains. Known for its scenic beauty and small-town charm, Jefferson offers a welcoming atmosphere and a variety of attractions for visitors to enjoy.

Tamara Kearley from Zaloo’s Canoes, joins the Carolina Outdoors to talk about one of those attractions.  It is the New River, one of the oldest rivers in North America & one of the few that flows northward.  Zaloos Canoes sits beside this clean, slower moving section of the river.   They offer tubing, canoe, & kayak rentals, along with a livery service.  The trips can last from 2 hours to 3 days, depending on your pick.

When it comes to paddling the New River, you have several options to choose from. The river offers a variety of stretches with varying difficulty levels, making it suitable for paddlers of different skill levels, from beginners to experienced paddlers. Tubing, Canoeing and kayaking are popular choices for families, church groups, & Scouts.
